I was just about to start a thread with a similar subject to this one !
I've been on a restricted license for a year, i'm 21 in April so was also contemplating whether to do the "Accelerated Test". I feel that i'd be confident enough(fortunately passed my A2 without any instruction, just read sh*t loads of books and videos online) to take my bike to the test centre , swap the restricted ecu with the full beans one, and undertake the test. I wonder if this is possible?! Anyone got any ideas? |

I'm yet to phone them and ask, but I'm hoping that's possible as that'd make most sense and be the cheapest option.
Let me know if you find out any more! |

Implying that anything to do with Insurance or the DVLA could have anything to do with sense shows a lack of the required experience :P

A quick skim through a couple of my policies does not say anything about that. You are covered for the bike on the road provided your licence allows... being over 21 a provisional is sufficient when accompanied. Surely fine or fine enough.

I'd probably go down the route of it being "fine enough". I do recall when I went to the test centre on my own 125cc unaccompanied , the examiner asked me to fill out a declaration confirming I had suitable insurance on the motorcycle. He didnt really give a do-dah if I did or not, saying that it was my problem and not his.

I was reading up about that. As long as you're displaying L plates, accompanied by an instructor/examiner and being given instructions through radio, it IS legal and covered by insurance.

Right, I have an answer from Bennetts insurance. They said I would be covered as they have us down as Full License just with a "modification" too the bike. The gentleman clarified with his manager and aslong as I am doing my test while the bike is unrestricted then I'm covered. I stressed that I wouldnt have any additional insurance from training centres and he still said I would be covered. I asked for this in writing but he said that would not be possible but because all calls are recorded that it would be on his head so to speak. Jobs a gooden it appears ![]() |
