![]() Admitantly its not a turbo kit thats going to make your bike go super duper fast, its a reliabilty mod. They're better than the acid/gel batteries far more reliable and pack a mighter punch. Yes the weight saving comparative to the weight of the SV isnt as fantastic as on the DRZ but its still there. I expected a few of the racers to be interested in these, I expected those who think their battery is on the fritz to be interested too along with those who just see its not a bad way to spend £80 on thier bike. If anyones ever considered getting one of these then hands down this will be the cheapest oportunity to get one in the near future. |

I wasn't going to say anything in this thread as there's a lot of negativity, didn't want to get anyones back up.
Even without the possible import duties It's not such an amazing deal. You can buy smaller packs with a much better discharge rate and smaller size in this country for about 40-50 quid. And thats not taking into consideration looking at the cells individually. I know this as I have loads of soft packs. You can also get that exact charger with multiple charge leads ect in this country for 20 quid, again I have one. It's fair to say lipos pack a massive punch and they do have an amazing shelf life when fully charged, but they won't outlast a properly maintained nicd or nimh. I use mine regularly and rarely see more than a year and a halfs life out of them. Also lipo cells have a cut off voltage, if the cell voltage drops bellow this 9 times out of 10 that cell then dies. Most things that use lipos and lions have something that monitors the voltage and cuts power before it falls bellow it, bearing in mind that's something your bike doesn't have. Also they are heavily effected by cold weather hence the warning on the site, most batteries are but lipos struggle massively when cold. Also lipos are highly unstable, it will only take your rec/reg to fail and the pack will turn into a fireball, same goes if a cell gets punctured. Also will kill you with the fumes. Sorry to be negative and I hope I've not annoyed anyone but I've used lipos for years and know they're not as amazing as the manufacturers claim |

![]() Price wise if you've got links I'd genuinely love to see them, I've not found anything which comes close to these on pricing so if you can beat it here in the UK then ![]() Your experiance is invaluable and Im sure will be taken on board by those who are on the fence. The units, the 8 Cell Im after does come in the hard case if that makes any difference its not just a plastic wrapped unit. I will point out for those reading your post that the focus is entierly on the negative (all valid) points, refering to fireballs etc does highlight a possible risk but tbh we're all riding around with tanks of highly explosive liquid petrolium between our knackers so its slightly hypocritical of us to say a battery is dangerous lol. Anyway dont be such a wuss with coming forward dude if you've got something to say your experiance is apprechiated by those who've not had the fortune to gain that experiance themselves. |

I'm injured so I didn't want to come in with my usual temperament
![]() ![]() I'll have a look if I can find the specific site. Lipos are great packs but from a personal view I'd rather have a nihm in there. I've had a 4 amp 4 cell lipo pack blow up in the kitchen before whilst on charge, luckily had the sense to charge it on a sheet of steel but still had to clear the house for a while. Oh also don't short them. LOL! is all I'll say Edit. It didn't blow up because it shorter on the sheet might I add lol Last edited by Wideboy; 22-03-12 at 12:26 PM. |
