seems a smart move. i've been wanting to get out of this shiz hole of a place for years as its driving me nutz, i fekin hate it but there is nowt i can do about it. i love Scotland and Kirkcaldy as a town as it had loooots going for it but its the locals (junkies and azzholez) i cant stand.
i hope you get to 'live the dream' and wish you all the best at getting there. best time to do things is in a rescission as the only way is up. |

The grass always seems greener on the other side, some times it is more out of the frying pan into the fire, but if that is the dream you have go for it and I would wish you the very very best of luck |

We sell the house, move to a more affluent area, which costs the earth, and we'll pay through the nose for... ...or we sell the house, and try something completely different. We currently are looking to take Dylan out of school for a few weeks, already prearranged by the school headmistress in October, after he has chosen his grammar schools etc, and once he has sat the exam , but not after xmas as this will clash with SATS. This trip will be to properly look into what is available once there, rather than here. I have also got the relevant information from the consulate as far as anything long term is concerened. We have also discussed arranging an appointment at the consulate to get a face to face discussion with an advisor. job...to be looked into on the trip. Bearing in mind that unemployment is on the rise over there, but on the flip side, can't be much worse than here, as far as ratios are concerned income....as above, or possibly if my house is sold and we go feet first, a short term fix would be to use the proceeds. education...you pay for education. One sort are the countries schools, the others are US academies or privately run English schools, which follow the same curriculum as here. healthcare....no different to paying NI contributions, you just pay private, the cost though needs some deeper investigation. Speaking of health, Pegs health is paramount, and this dank, wet, damp country is not doing his heath any good. I have already seen what happens when the heat is turned up for someone with these issues, and its positive. pension...whats one of those? language....you forget, as a British Cypriot Peg is aready bilingual, our son is being taught both languages, son no1 also learns, I learn, and as I already speak French often, have a German Grandmother, it shouldn't be too hard to learn another language on top of those that I can get by on perfectly well when abroad.. family, my family already have had the discussion, and as both my parents are coming up to retirement, they would rather we did this now, than later, and miss the opportunity like they did. Remember, Pete DOES have family, over on the island. friends ..... do you think they'd give me a second thought if they wanted to make a better life for themselves, I very very much doubt it. Of course I'd be told, but at the end of the day, friends can still be friends, even if water is between you......which as a matter of fact I've just been off the phone to France! Or.....we could just stay here, and be miserable, and it pi$$ing down with rain every day, with concrete wherever we look. Pillocks on every corner, and our kids growing up with scumbags as influence around them

I am in no way trying to dampen your enthusiasm but I spent an hour reading about the Greek Cypriot economy before posting.Unemployment is running at 29.7% struggling to pay salaries of public sector, similar bail out problems if not worse than Greek mainland, tourist trade is down due to escalating costs and education is fairly expensive for good schools, medical insurance when private seldom covers any existing or previous ailments when you take it out new.
By all means up sticks and try something new but look at other alternatives than someplace that has an ailing economy and all the other hurdles that seem to accompany it Last edited by Dicky Ticker; 29-03-12 at 01:36 PM. |

I read every day. I spend a lot of time researching this matter.
As for it being worse than the Greek economy, its not IMO(not yet anyway), but then everything you read is subjective, and also dependant on which source.. The UK apparently is doing fabulous in comparison to the Greeks, but they wrap that up in ribbons and pretty things to make the sheep think we're doing great, when in fact we're in just the same **** position as anyone else on the global stage. Remember one thing.....Cyprus is an entirely different economy, it is not Greece.
