Traction= grip
Stops the wheels spinning up excessively.
They still spin though ,even in the dry

I would think £1400 is more realistic for retro fit
It's some sodding complicated electronics, forks that need fittings for wheel sensors etc.

If you did all new parts for this... I wouldn't like to guess at the cost!

Here's the first one for "I don't need all this sh!t"! Re. ABS and traction control.
However I have crashed (repeatedly) due to losing the front on the brakes and losing the rear when giving it beans.

Call me stubborn but I just don't like complexity. (though it does rarely go wrong)

ABS will help in possibly THE most common crash scenario... see hazard... soil undercrackers... grab fistful of brake... lock front wheel... fall off.

If upright ABS will save you. If leant over, it won't.

But for £400 I might actually consider it if I was about to wank a load of money away on a rapidly deprecating new bike anyway.

The way I see it, every little helps. Doesn't mean I don't want to be good at proper brake control but should the worst happen, if you can have a safety net that can help you out even just the one time - why not have it?

For +£300 on a Shiver I'd take the option

Buying factory fitted worth the extra cost but to retro fit it would be easier and cheaper to replace the bike with factory fitted,either on a new or s/hand bike.

Damn, I must have died a couple of horrible deaths on the two trackdays I've done with ABS and not been told. Also, there must be something else seriously wrong with me as I was only 47 when I bought my bike with ABS fitted.

What utter toss you posted.

Well I missed this first time round...

But unlike Lozzo I'd like to politely invite you to substantiate your opinions...
Except for the d*ck swinging crap about what is "respectable", that bit you can stick up your *rse.

I seemed to learn to ride fine on the road... this and the d*ck swinging poser crap about what is "respectable"...FFS...

So why can't you do a trackday with ABS? Sure I could talk about slippage ratios versus coefficients of friction, and how with a lot of early (and new crap ones I suppose...) ABS systems this lead to them cutting in too early, but I doubt you know enough to understand this much less debate it.
So given that the modern ABS systems I've tried haven't cut in annoyingly early;
Why can't you do a trackday with ABS?
On which of the (obviously many) trackdays you have done with ABS, did you decide it was impossible and why?
Why would "getting to know your bike" be any less valid because you were getting to know a different braking setup?

Let's not forget that not all of us are amazing riders and doing track days. I just enjoy riding around amongst birds and trees, jumping down to the countryside or another city and riding to work. I will never be a speed demon on a track. I will never be Sandra Stammova. So for me, why not have it??

An air bag in a car won't save you if you get hit from the side but that does't mean you wouldn't bother having one. Just cos ABS won't save you every time, doesn't mean you should not have it
