It's all about piston/valve area - that makes a big difference.

My speed 4 rarely gets over 120 miles with about 18-19 quid put in it.

At the end of the day 90% of the miles 90% of us do are for fun. If you commute then mpg is important. If not then it's all avoidable expense anyway. I don't drink, don't smoke and only visit ladies of the night when they have a 2-4-1 offer on so this is my only real extravagance. Thunderace, do you really consider mpg each time you salivate over the super-duke?

Seriously mark?
The only person with less money for fuel and more money for parts than Nathan is bordtea. Mr only got £10 for fuel but can afford new plastics, a new tank and maybe a second bike. |

If you are stretching it's legs for any amount of time then you're either mad or ride on very open roads! I suspect the SVthou will drink more for the same riding as you'll be closer to flat out on it due to the comparative lack of power. V Twins aren't inherently efficient because of the amount of gas that has to flow in and out of cases every revolution. Always going to cost more than a comparable four. OTOH less spark plugs to buy. ![]()

With the Tor map on my sprint for my trident cans I've had the fuel light on at 128 miles, lowest ever.
Considering most get around 180-200 depending on riding /speed etc, that's a pretty big difference. Ride it conservative and I can get 170, managed 165 with the wife and luggage in the week on French mway at a steady 85, was quite pleased with that considering it weighed around 450kgs. |

Nathan forgot to mention that it's 120-160 miles till the OIL light comes on.
And just an FYI, he's mad. |

Not sure what the free-flowing induction and cans do to my MPG. One view is it's more efficient so should use less. The other view is it's easier to chuck fuel and air through so it will use more. Personally I think it makes a great noise and that's worth 10 mpg ![]()
