Fuel,spark,air always check when engine misbehaving.

But just saying that covers everything, it hardly narrows anything down.

Well yes it does, if you know how it should look, you know when something looks wrong. If you have fuel, plugs working and fitted correctly, intake connected properly, then 99% of the time an engine will work.

It was asked what I'd do, third on my list, air intake.

Suck, squeeze, bang, blow, if your engine can do this it will work unless there is an engine management issue or something broken in the engine itself.

What I mean is just saying fuel spark air isn't very specific, it also describes how you start a fire for instance.

The entire purpose of the post was to get a discussion of what to do how to do it and what to look for. You just went right in there with an over simplified version that half the forum would not know how to actually put into practice.

Although if I did we might have less of the " buy a multimeter" type posts.

I could call it "Dave's Bible" or "The Bodgers Handbok"!

As I've said before If you don't know the basics you deserve to be stuck at the edge of the road. I taught myself, with a little input from my dad and a local bike breaker. Never trust anyone who goes into too much detail, I've often found the more general sounding advice more useful and easier to remember.
