Unfortunately a well meaning but slightly ham fisted house mate managed to pull the circular connector off the negative wire when cleaning up:

Yep, the official 12v plug chargers that come with the satnavs have step down transformers built in to the plug, never cut one off and try to hard wire in without checking the voltage the satnav receives.
