I had exactly same problem and fitted new clutch plates (£40) sorted.

The part I replaced was part 23200-11D00, Screw Assy- Clutch.

Before you replace it pull the old one out and check how smoothl it works... Mine was really obviously knackered, so I'd expect if it was causing anyone else's problems they'd be able to tell quite easily. It should be really smooth, but the old one barely even turned.

I'm surprised that the mechanic mentioned hadn't experienced this before, Suzuki have been using the same mechanism, (albeit in a few different forms), for a long time on various models of their bikes, the b*gg*r*d clutch lifter is really not unusual, I think I've replaced two SV ones this year.
...and advised to fit one as well.

However, mine nevr fixed the issue, nor did a second hand basket, or new plates...looks like its new parts time, or just live with clutch drag

One thing which seems to have me confused. It says to wind the adjustment screw out, then in till it touches, then out 1/4 turn, then nip up the lock nut. When I nip up the lock nut, it turns the screw with it, is this meant to happen?

Turn the screw in until it touches, not out, and then hold it while you tighten the nut, if you don't it will turn changing the setting you've just made.

That's what I thought.

Ok, I'll have another try this evening. I tried holding the screw whilst tightening the lock nut, but I didn't eat my wheeties yesterday so didn't manage to keep it still.

I did a search, this seemed most appropriate. I'd only get moaned at for creating another thread!

Start writing then.

Oh, wait, you want someone else to do loads of work on your behalf, right?

Lots of sites have tutorials for everything and still 101 eejits posting IN the tutorials threads asking questions answered in that very thread as well as starting threads elsewhere.

I would gladly do the writing, if I knew what to write. Unfortunately I do not posess that knowledge to share.

Not sure how to take you on that last bit to be honest, sounds a bit rude.

You already impart free knowledge to people day in, day out, would it not make sense for it to be written once, stickied/put in its own section, thread closed? Easy to link to, even for people that dont know the procedure 100%. Kept clean of banter and general spam.

I mean, there is already that Engine Oil sticky, which is along those lines, so the thought must have been there before right?

Yes, there is the search function, but the majority of people dont use it or dont know of the right search term to put in for decent results. Not excusing the fact, just highlighting the truth.

Its not like I am saying we should have a tutes sectrion, and you should write it all for my benefit. I'm saying it would be nice to have, should people like you wish to contribute, for the whole community.

Put bluntly, if you dont want to do it, then dont. No skin of my nose. Was just a suggestion...

Nature of the internet. I still think it will do more good than bad though.
