Don't worry about your response, My OS and anti virus was uptodate, I use tools for spyware detection etc and it still got in there.

This afterall is a biking forum not an IT one. I only asked the question here as I haven't got a clue where to ask otherwise. Rootkit revealer is now added to my toolkit of useful utilities

Once again thankyou. I was getting to the point where I would have to have rebuilt my dev system and not looking forward to it.

Oh, btw nearly no antivirus scanner can detect rootkits. This is because the folders they reside in are compleley hidden from the OS and so the scanners wont find it. Also most of them cant detect the rootkit in memory because of the way its hooked into the system OS.

This is why there was a huge issue about the Sony rootkit that was installed on peoples machines.
