I used to push bike along lube what was visible and then move it again. Have just got a paddock stand and its much easier jacking it up and spinning the wheel by hand.

Wurth dry chain wax is very good - However you can't really see where its covered very well. THe chain seems to stay very clean.

When my bike gets serviced they use some sort of 'normal' thin oil. THe chain gets very black and attracts all sorts of dirty crap.

I have just bought a can of motrax gold chain wax... i expected it to be the same as the wurth wax (e.g. gold standard) but its different - (gold bling!) The wax is much thicker and very gold coloured!!! makes it easy to see if you've missed a patch and easy to see when the lube is getting washed off. only had it a week though so don't know how skanky it will get when it needs cleaning/re-applying.

I use a stand, or if pushed I'll lube part of the chain, roll the bike forward and lube a bit more, etc. until it's all done. Takes less time than using the stand but I usually clean it first and that's something that really needs the stand.
