Having another pop at the SV eh?
Did the Hornet figure in that test?

Hey let's just leave that post back in the other thread. This has nowt to do with what superior bike I ride.

Afterall they are basically saying the Sv650 is quicker round a track than a Gixxer 600, man I can smell the BS from here.

Sounds very suss to me.

The SV is a good bike but going to the SS600 I found it is not just a "bit" faster but absolutely miles quicker.

In a straightline they go like missiles compared to the SV and they don't have mid range issues because even at low revs they don't lack much compared to the SV but anyway the gears seem shorter and you use lower gears so you always tend to be at higher revs and with loads more power on tap.

The handling and brakes are also leagues ahead. It is like comparing a BMX with a Goldwing.

Mind you on the road things are different to the track. Down a bumpy road even with its dodgy front suspension the SV would blow my ZX-6R away but that is due to the flawed rear suspension on my particular model/year.

Also I read that article in one of my Ride (I think) magazines where they measured the power usage on their TT course and they were only using about 25bhp or something and only one of the riders came close to using the full power of the bike so in the real world the SV isn't much slower aside from when blasting on big open straights.

Still given where these bikes were tested I think something is not quite right. Sounds like a mag trying to make a point and stir up some controversy and sell more copies.

We all know that a ss600 is faster than the SV, but come on, that is an impressive result for
what sounded like a 'shonker' example of an SV. Good on the old gal.

All the tests have been done on different dates, under different consditions and likely with different riders, so that could explain the apparent inconsistency (ies)...

But I agree, the sv may be slower, but not all that much slower in the right hands, i.e not mine.

I find on trackdays it is often faster than a lot of the bigger bikes as they're scared to put the power down, where as with the SV you're often on full throttle going round the outside of a blade/R1, only for it to blast past you on the straight (well in the novice group that has been the case).

So that will be a yes then?!

No, they are saying that at the time the tests were carried out, ie different conditions etc, the SV posted a quicker time than the Gsxr6 (which was probably not even run in at the time, and was probably ridden by my gran ) At no time do they suggest that the SV is a better bike than a ss6.

They use a setup with a monster straight and a wee mad chicaney bit, among others. They're always making a big deal of how they use parts of the circuit with terrible surfaces, which causes the more focussed bikes problems... That's why they say the 2006 Blade beat the GSXR thou.

Doesn't explain this though

Weather conditions as per the notes: Dry & Patchy for the 600s - 35MPH headwind. Dry for the SV with 15MPH crosswind

Well the way I understood it was that the test were carried out on the same day in the same conditions. Maybe I misread something. Either way who really gives a hoot, Hornets are quicker than everything.

*runs :P

Lets stop giving the little sv a hard time guys i think this all depends on the rider? in the latest ride magazine a bike tester goes round a track on a cbr600rr agains rocket ron haslam on a cbr125! the ss600 only wins by a gnats knacker.
