Was more this side of things I would rather avoid, not that it would take too long to drain the tank and flush the fuel system, but it's a pain in the bum. And time can be better spent elsewhere

As i understand it the supermarket petrol comes from the same refineries as BP or shell. I've read loads of time on forums where people have seen BP tankers filling up Sainsburys stations. I'm sure that it is simply the nearest refinery who can supply the fuel, unless it is a special fuel like BP ultimate or the 99 ron bio-ethanol stuff.

Also IIRC the difference between many fuels is often made from additives which are added to the tankers. My guess is that they've added the incorrect dose of additives (silicone in this case?) and this is unrelated to tesco selling 'cheap' fuel. It is just a manufacturing defect.

One thing is for sure... tesco will not have set up their own oil refinery! They will just buy from the refinery who gives them the best price.... Similarly i've heard that Halfords oil comes in on Castrol crates.

EDIT... Some googling reveals that Sainsburys are supplied by BP, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons have their 'own brand'. Can't find out where they get the fuel from though...

well my local petrol station which has the name Jet and has no supermarket mentioned anywhere near it, never mind on it, it is infact run by sainsbury's, but it only tells you that on the credit card statement. I only know this as it is where I filled up before my bike engine problems started. I'm not saying that is the source of my problems, it is just 1 possibility. (its booked in for a diagnosis and repair on tuesday)

LOL! That bloody song should be forbidden! I had it stuck in me'ead all morning too as a result of my quip. Note to self- don't make wisecracks about summink that'll be going round yer'ead for hours/days afterwards!!!


I agree- there'll be a general curse against "That bloody contaminated fuel" for months, from knocked over pints to natural disasters!!!
