Myself, I'd say that if you're needlessly replacing perfectly good oil seals, you might as well needlessly replace perfectly good dust seals too They do tend to get damaged or degrade faster than the oil seals as they're exposed to UV and dirt, though.

Well I set out with good intentions today but couldn't find a safe enough way to get the bike in the air to drop the forks out. I'll wait till I can use the workshop and hang it from the winch I think. The oil seal is still only weeping and not getting any worse.

But the dire front suspension does pish me orf though. It'll probably be worse now as I fitted new dog bones today which may load up the front some more? Still, I did mangage to get my new diablo stradas on and 46t rear sprocket. Sadly I dont have time to road test it though. Ho hum!

I'm off again on monday and if the workshop is free who knows I may get these damn springs fitted yet! Still, I'm gettng there, slowly but shirley!

What type of bike Taipan, Pointy or curvy? I am eagerly awaiting your report when the new springs are fitted.

Curvy. I'll be sure to risk a hanging for "dissing" the Sv in its standard guise by applauding the hyperpros.

Doesn't matter what springs you use really, they are all springy. Just get the right rate, and decide if you want progressive or linear. Prog looks good on paper but I've never been convinced it really works in short forks. Don't worry about brands...

Just had some Ohlins .8 linear springs and thicker oil fitted today and it has made a world of difference.

If I had a clue what the right rate was I'd get it I'm sure..

I guess that linear means the compression/load graph is a straight line and progressives 'stiffen' up as they compress. But I have no idea what the difference would feel like. I'm 13 stone and my rear suspension feels a whole lot better since I adjusted the preload.
