That is odd - mine goes up in 10's, as do all the ones I can see from flicking through the Haynes manual.
This is the problem with older bikes that have possibly been down the road a few times - each progressive owner is generally less concerned with replacing parts exactly and more likely to just 'get something that works'. The clocks could have been changed, speedo sensor changed - you just don't know unless you do it yourself. I don't even know if just changing the speedo assembly itself will help - as I don't know what translates the data received from the sensor - the assembly or something else in the circuits behind it. I'm at a loss there I'm afraid. The sensor is obviously working if a speed is showing. So it's either telling it the wrong speed at one end or reading the data wrong at the other. So logic would have it that you swap one bit of electrical/sensitive/jiggerypokery at one end and leave the other alone - see if that works and then swap the other end as well if it doesn't. Um - I only know how to hit things with hammers - there's bound to be someone out there who knows how hard to hit it. ![]() |

When I bought my current bike (CBR600F) as it was a parallel import it had kph clocks, I took it to a local garage who sent the clocks away to be recallibrated, got them back and hey presto they had a mph dial and read correctly. Was about £100 which included removing and re-fitting the clocks.

If it is measured at the gearbox/engine then a smaller front sprocket would make it read faster than you were going, not slower.

I'd look at speedo healers myself... Easier than trying to diagnore the actual fault, though it's a bit bodgey. I don't like electrical diagnosis work though, so that's maybe me taking the easy way out.
