Why would you think it needs a Bull S&*t number on it, if you mean BSi then you will be happy to know that not a requirement for number plates. What you may not be happy to know is that all info on the plate must be under the plastic bit, ie in the same layer as the numbers/letter

Just looked on DVLA website, the regs are shown here and state what should be displayed.

Bit of a quandary here Bike is 2001 but the cherished plate is older and has been transfered 4 times now by me. The plate only has 6 digits so is slightly smaller than the new plates,number, letter, font,size and spacing all conform as with the manufacturers name but it doesn't have the BS confirmation marks
My interpretation is it is the numberplate that has to conform if manufactured after 2001,not the vehicle manufacture date
This plate has now gone through muliple MOT,s without any problems on my last four bikes,the most recent being Sept07
My question being the physical transfering of the actual number plate from one vehicle to another--------------should it be a new plate each time or can I continue using the same old plate?
