It wasn't quite "free" ... it was something like £1.45 for one, £2 for two.
I just refuse to buy stuff I don't need.

I don't mind purchasing these offers from time to time, and when the stuff will get used but ... my better half? OMG ... 8 boxes of Alpen she came home with one day cos "it was on special offer" ... 8 boxes of the stuff! I HAD to start eating healthier just to shift the damn stuff!! It's not like we didn't have any other cereal either ... yes she is a serious cereal bargain hunter LOL ... at the time we must have had ... 2 boxes of Optivia, a box of Cornflakes, a box of Rice Crispies, a box of Shreddies, 2 boxes of Fitnesse (or whatever it's called), a box of weetabix, a box of oats and a 2 boxes of Shredded Wheat bitesize/fruitful ...

So after she had cereally offended we now had 2 cupboards, half a shoe-rack and a utility room littered with boxes of cereal!

We finally ate our way through it ... just in time for the offer to return!

Thankfully she only bought 4 boxes this time

I used to work in ASDA doing the reductions for the chilled stuff, amongst other things.

I was their primary loss leader.

I had mini-auctions with old people where bidding went up in pennies starting at 10p. They knew a bargain when they saw one, at 7:50pm when they all came flocking in to clear the reduction counters before it closed at 8!

I also worked on the checkouts where items without barcodes were clearly free, chilled items where the barcodes were smudged were free, and any fruit and veg that I couldnt remember the PLU for was er.... free.
