They are for my numbers when hillclimbing. Regulations call for front and side numbers.

Ah, right. Thanks for that. Congratulations on the new start as well, he looks great. Just became a grandfather for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I'd forgotten how much pleasure they give you.

Yesterday went well, after a few frustrating runs where I knew I was on the wrong lines, I managed to pull a tenth off my PB time. Knowing that 2nd place was the best I could manage I was pleased to at least make a new PB.

I put 15wt oil in the forks during the weeks before and I feel much happier thru the tight corners, but I still need to commit to a wider entry for turn one and be braver on the throttle! (Sound like a stuck record don't I!)

Still I was happy with 2nd place in my class, behind Julian's super twin who beat me by a clear 2 seconds! Mega fast!!

Are knobblies the norm for hill climbs?

Cool vid. How do you get the video so smooth with a fixed mount?

Not for everyone but yes a lot of us run the wet tyres purely for the softness and grip from cold.

Just mount the camera somewhere solid! Normally id say use 60fps too but that was all 30fps so not always necessary.

So this weekend just gone was the final two rounds of the hill climb championship at Oliver's Mount.

So Saturday and Sunday counting for a round each.

Before the weekend I sat 11th in the championship table, well away from the prizes for 6th and upwards.

Saturday started well and I was down to the 48s mark by the time the practice runs were done. Sadly the day continued frustratingly with an eventual time of 46.9s being 0.2 off my pb. That still bagged me 2nd place but I was annoyed that I kept making the same mistakes and pushed too hard to try and improve.

Yet again Julian on the ER6 supertwin blitzed us all with a time in the 44s!

But 2nd place was good points and Sunday would surely be better!

Well Sunday was frustrating for myself again BUT provided brilliant racing with Charlie on his GSR 750. Having got to grips with the bike he was leading me throughout the day.

One point I managed to level again with the exact same time as him of 46.86s which we both found hilarious!

Then he pulled a great time late into the afternoon of 46.48s, around 0.2s ahead of my existing PB.

So, yet again, last run of the day arrived and I was desperate to bag 2nd place. I made a good start, the front just about to lift before grabbing 2nd gear. A smooth first corner and I felt better, an earlier braking point for corner two and I made the apex I'd been struggling with all day.
I managed to hold my nerve over the fast left hander's uphill bumps and dived for the last chicane.
I managed good drive out of it and to my amazement managed a 46.40! A new PB.

With Charlie not improving his final run, I had taken 2nd place by a mere 0.08s!

All this took me to 6th in the championship and I think that means some vouchers for next years entry!



A great weekend of paddock banter and hard, close racing. Brilliant.

In our class, on Sunday, the top five were only 0.6 seconds apart!
