It's all to do with synchronising gears. Matching gear speeds before engaging.

Well not only have you contradicted yourself there, but it is obvious that you were not blipping correctly. The whole point of the blip is to increase engine speed to match the gear speed when you change down. The result will be that rear tyre will not be over braked by the engine as it tries to speed the engine up to the speed to match the gear/wheel speed. If you down change two gears you need to give it more of a blip to get the engine speed higher to match the lower gear.

same for me! although i do find it can be a problem when the engine is really cold as it can cause it to cut out! i do have to admit also that i quite enjoy having there rear end snaking about a bit sometimes. as those who i went to lydden with will testify

And try as i might the Kwaks rear wont lock
Ive never had the rear wheel lock on the SV (touches wood frantically!) - I must be so damn smooth seriously though - probably because I went through that big time on my Guzzi - what with the shaft drive as well the back end was forever flying out - until I got the hang of it!

The trick is to keep an open mind - try blipping out, even if you think it won't help. You might find that since you last tried it your experience and knowledge of your machine has increased enough to make it worthwhile.

I tend to blip in low gears cos ive locked skidded the wheel before. But when the revs are high 6K+ just change down and let the slipper clutch cope with it.

Yes, that's why. Don't try it on a boxer engine like a BMW, as it will push you over
For the avoidance of doubt - The blip is done with the clutch fully pulled in

Well if you're not good enough at it then true I could change down to 1st at about 30 without losing traction (it doesn't actually lock in the first place ) if I match the revs right

I can blip my throttle for clutchless downchanges now but I have been known to get it wrong also.
That's the only time it catches me out when I try to change down to 1st, but I'm already in 1st & then I can sometimes get a lurch forward as I let out the clutch scary when you are expecting engine braking Anyone got a gear indicator!
