welll my son is my little geek and i'm proud of him. He'd far rather sit and watch Mythbusters and scrapheap challenge than bore the nation street and Rickeeeeeeeeee!!
Im Indoors made him a model trebuchet once.....which he loves firing stuff at the cats with. We try to get him involved with how things work...he even helped YC bleed my brakes last week. If parents got their kids involved with stuff more than ignoring them, then we wouldn't have a nation of bored thick kids would we?
Although I hate kids programmes, you can't stop em. Ben Ten is the favourite in this house...ad subsequently i have six year old flying round the house being an alien and kicking butt everywhere......

I have to agree with this point. I don't find I have half the patience I had now, as what i had before Dylan was at school. I wasn't at work back then, so had the time, but when me and his dad split I had to go to work...and the 'our time' got thin. Working nights a lot makes me less patient too, and i don't always have the time or want to sit and do homework and reading. But I try my best.
As for undereducated parents, I agree there too. I'm lucky that Im Indoors is mathematically and scientifically wired( I am to an extent) because where I can sort out the english, art and languages part, he can take over in other departments that I lack in knowledge....helps with Im Indoors' dad being a retired physics and maths teacher too

Also I might add, that luckily his grandparents are heavily involved in his life. This means that my over bearing mother helps with reading and writing, she got all of us through school with decent grades, so her influence helps massively too. plus grandad gets him involved with all the stuff he does too.........I'm going to end up with my son being a cross between Fred Dibnah and Percy Thrower....lol

Yep, definately. Looking to Ireland it has been proven that not only do the kids in grammar schools excel, but the kids in the surrounding 'normal' schools do better too (as they don't feel thick being in the lower sets and the teachers can pitch things at their level). Never mind the lower rate of bullying in both schools. There is no reason other than inverse-snobbery not to have grammar schools IMO.
