iTunes, whatever the hardware is like... IME is bloatware. I'd be looking for any alternative to allow you to use the iPod as a USB hard drive type mp3 player as they should be used.

It all started, as it so often does, when he was a small boy. One day, young Master Soulkiss was sitting under an apple tree when plunk! an apple dropped onto his head. Inspired by this, he was compelled to come up with a theory of gravity. However when his teachers told him that Isaac Newton had already invented gravity some 400 years earlier, he realised that he would never achieve the greatness he sought. Left bitter and twisted, he developed an irrational hatred of the humble fruit, refusing even to buy any Beatles albums after Sgt. Pepper. Things got worse still for the geekish lad when Apple Computer released the Apple II. The final straw was the Apple Newton PDA. How he hated them! Being a fan of fantasy fiction, he took to reading Lord of the Rings, but was dismayed to discover that one of the main characters is named 'Pippin'. This eventually lead to his fetish for dressing up as an Orc.

I hope that you now have some understanding and some sympathy for his terrible plight.
Ok, I was going to ignore your "Soulkiss is uninformed" comment but as you have just made me laugh with the above.....

As for stripping the DRM from purchased tracks. So what? It's no worse than ripping a DVD to my computer or iPod.
You will note that I had previously said

As for stripping DRM - well it shouldn't be there in the 1st place - the XKCD comic already posted shows this.

The way that things are with IP/Copyright issues at the moment, you shouldn't have to run something you have paid for through some software that instantly could cost you load of money/land you in jail.

Removing the DRM from downloaded iTunes is the same as just downloading the mp3 from a bittorrent site in the eyes of the law, the difference being that you dont have to pay for it in the 1st instance.

But anyways, love your little history lesson on my background - its a bit shakey in places but not too bad

The true reasons I dont like Apple products much is that they ALL have some kind of catch to them, needing to install iTunes bloatware to operate an iPod properly, or having to be on a specific phone network to use an iPhone, there is always something.

Sure as a techy I can work around those issues - but I shouldn't have to is my arguement.

iPods are for iDiots and iMugs

Erm, that was Telefonica(o2) that paid for the exclusive rights to the iphone not Apple. Lets face it, if you built a product and someone came to you and said we would pay you a shed load of money for exclusive right to your product for 3 maybe 5 years, you wouldnt say no!

As for the software issue, there are a lot of Mp3 manufacturers that you have to use thier software to upload music. Vernas old IRiver for instance needs Iriver software or WMP to upload, and WMP10 only! Hence i bought her an ipod shuffle

Sure, and my Creative Zen Touch was the same (my research on that one was faulty - I saw that they had released firmware that meant you didnt need to use the Creative software, but didnt see that you needed MTP/Playsforsure ie WMP10.

Still currently dont have that problem with the players I have chosen - interestingly tho, I DID install the software from Cowon, but only because I actually like it......
