When you find riders who ride at the same pace as you with a similar view on when to overtake, etc, group riding works well, otherwise it's frustrating as hell and frankly dangerous. You're always backing off the throttle, on the brakes, or stuck behind something when you don't want to be.

That there is exactly what I was getting at.

I prefer groups, but i don't like to lead. I prefer to be in the middle.

Iam happy on my own, I commute on the bike whenever possible. When the weather is decent the ride home often takes a conveluted route. I often go out for a Saturday or Sunday bimble with no real planning on my own.

Riding with large groups is a different sort of experiance, I ahve done this with both organised and adhoc groups, and I much prefer an organised, experianced group. the best group bides I have had have been with an Advanced group where other riders behaviour is predictable.

The best rides I have had have been with one or two mates who ride in a similar way to me. Its a mixture of good riding and good company that produce the ideal day for me.

I like riding with large groups. I'm usually one of the slowest but I don't care. For me it's not just about the bike, it's the social side - the craic, the laughs. So for example I could have gone out on my own today but I chose not to, I went running instead and came back happy as larry

i cant just ride somewhere, i have to have a purpose, like to go to the bike shop, or get petrol, or go to someones house etc etc so i guess i like riding with people, if im not in front because on a rideout you usually plan to end up somewhere, or the person leading decides when to stop. i had most fun i think with one person, but then again i;ve known him for 5 years so i wasnt nervous, whereas today i had a rideout with several peopl and it was great, but i was terrified people would judge my awful awful riding skills so i get nervous lol.

I used to go out in big groups and used to arrange quite big rideouts but now I would rather go out on my own or with 1 or 2 other people so I have someone to chat to on a brew break.
