whatever Xbox you get, id personally get a brand spanking new one (no second hand) and purchse the 3 year warranty that comes with it in the box.

Id also get the Elite simply because "why not?" the newer model will more than likely be better and have less problems.

Matts had the white 60GB one since 2007 and it only suffered its first problem at the beginning of the year. No ring of death but the games kept freezing. However microsoft themselves were brilliant and promplty sorted it out and sent a new HDD and its had no problems since (touch wood!). I think the Fable game killed it TBH.

Oh, and online play is a million times better than the PS3.

my son has the black 360 (didnt know if was any better than the white) but it had 3 red lights on it. It was out of warranty but contacted microsoft, they sent us a packing label and contact number for ups. they came and collected from the house, emailed from germany to say it had arrived and got it back yesterday (1 week later) all working with a new motherboard. Great service.

I've got the Elite. Simply because when I went to get one that's all they had.

I think they ironed out some of the problems they had with the earlier ones with the Elite.

I'd buy new. You never know what's happened to them if you buy second hand.

I would like to play online (not right away) but i dont see why more than 20GB would be needed.
I am going to get a second hand one from game/game station depending on who can offer the best deals with a years warenty.

I got an Elite because it came with a few leads/connectors I wanted anyway, had the 120GB hard disk and of course, was in the best colour. It was only £40 more at the time and I could just envisage some point in the future running out of disk space and getting hacked off at not having bought the bigger one. A mate who bought his at the same time got a 60GB and thought that was overkill, never mind 120GB. 6 months on and a lot of downloadable content (not to mention over a gig of mandatory updates for some games! cough*burnout*cough) and my mate is running out of disk space on his and regretting not getting the Elite. Mine is also at 60GB, but I must admit, I have installed several games to the HD although this is well worth doing. I just wish they'd do something with DRM to remove the requirement to put the disk in the drive all the time.

IMO, it ultimately comes down to time; is your time constantly deleting/redownloading things because you're low on disk space and waiting for games to load worth £40? If you only play games a couple of hours a week, probably not. If you play it a couple of hours a night, definately.

i had ring of death about 2 years ago, rang microsoft, they collected it, repaired it and returned it in around 4 weeks completely free of charge, no messing around looking for receipts etc... was quite impressed.

You can download movies, game demos (lots of them) and other content onto your xbox - I've got 20gb and it's seems adequete for what I do. Currently got about 8 game demos and loads of game save data and it's still got about 3gb left...

Well I went and got it today. Decided to get a new one as they only offered a £10 saving if I got a second hand one bit of a no brainer there, even if there were no potential problems.

Ended up getting the 60gb version with the entertainment pack (includes extra controller, burnout paradice, trivial pursuit and connect 4) Gears of War 2, GTA4, Fable 2 and Oblivion game of the year edition and the 2 year suport/warenty thingy.

I managed to get £40 of discounts as well as the £30 discount for the bundle. Worked out cheeper than if I had bought it all second hand and not hussled a discount

Happy with it

Oh and did I mention I finished my degree today!!! But i will start another thread for that!!
