I have heard of a few falling off in the dry too, or clipping the cones way too much/hard.

i'm glad you take that point of view btw GG. I get annoyed by those who cant pass it and try to say its unfair or undable. To me they just have not built up the skills yet and thats down to their instruction i'd say.

I cant pass it but i dont think its hard or unfair its all down to good instruction and preparation, im just a nervous wreck under test conditions!! What is harsh is that you have to wait 3 days to try again (10 if you fail the road ride). Im sure if i could do it once and fail then that'd settle my nerves and i could probably re-do it again immediately and pass no trouble, but by the time ive had to wait another week to try again ive got me knickers all in twist again. Still, my instructors bank manager's happy as are the dsa!!!

Spend the money you would otherwise spend on resitting tests on an hour with a hypnotherapist that deals with nerves. There are loads out there...cost about the same as your test and it will really help you. My friend had to do it after failing her driving test four times. She had an hours hypnotherapy and a week later she did her fifth test and passed!

I'm lucky that I just don't suffer nerves like that so tests and exams are just like any other day for me, but if you do suffer nerves, I think you should use every tool you can find to help you overcome them!

I am fee-ling slee-py , Im gonna have one more shot and if it still doesnt happen then i may have to look into some hypnotherapy - listening to my ex-husband drone on, thats always good to send me to sleep, and its free!!! Seriously though, its something i may need to look into cos this situations gone from the sublime to the ridiculous and now its just fuuking annoying and expensive, so thanks for the suggestion xx

How about people doing more riding before they actually go in for their test. I'm appalled by the lack of experience some riders have when they actually get a full licence. Some of them have only been riding for about 3 or 4 days in total, which is nowhere near enough to gain the skills needed to be safe on the roads.

Instead of blaming the test, how about blaming some riders for over-estimating their own abilities.

Don't get me wrong, I abhor the efforts made by this government and every one since 1981 to make motorcycling harder to get into. I just feel that new riders are playing right into the hands of those who are attempting to outlaw our pastime.

Lozzo, i agree. I clocked up 2000 miles on my 125 before progressing to a 500 and whilst i was very impatient to progress i feel that i moved up at the right time, there is no way i could have done cbt on a saturday and taken a 500 test 4 days later and felt in control and safe. My instructor said i was the best 125 to 500 conversion hed had in a long time and it was due to the fact that id been out riding getting experience. id outgrown the 125 and was ready to handle more weight and power. Im sure many of you out there have done short courses and are perfectly competent but ill be much more confident in my own ability to ride a big bike safely with some road riding experience under my belt.

I think that's the problem, motorcycling is now seen as a past time, leisure pursuit etc. Until it is taken as a normal, environmentally friendly, economically sensible way of travel again it is going to be pushed further to the fringe. As a recreational motorcyclist I hold my hand up that I'm adding to the problem, but I'm afraid it's too much fun.

The sensible post in this thread.
