I'm short sighted and I have an astigmatism, I also have a macular degeneration in my right eye caused by burst blood vessels in my retina which distorts my vision slightly.
I looked into it before and no way will they laser my eyes with all that lot going on...

It may feel odd but when buying glasses take your lid with you and try the frames with the lid on as well as off. You get some odd looks from the other punters but my optician recommends all speccy bikers do it.
I ended up with flexible frames for my mild short sight correction. They bend to suit the padding in your lid and are supper light. Brand name is Flexon I think but there are several of them on the market. And yes, reactions lenses do not work behind a visor, even plain ones. I'll go for a separate pair of sunnies next time. And before anyone else suggests contacts I asked about those too. For those of us with very mild short sight they're not recommended.

I'm as bad as fizz, so is Pegasus. Both with Astigmatism, terrible eyesight!
My son has a slight astigmatism too. God help it if we had any kids, they'd turn out looking like that kid in Shells post!

Have you tried eye exercises? If you only have a slight problem, this can bring them back. I bought this book, it worked for me, I lent it to a friend at work who was about to get her first pair of glasses and it brought her eyes back up to standard too.

Wow that's interesting. What exactly do you do to exercise them?

There are many different excercises in the book. Some involve simply relaxing the eyes, others using the imagination and memory to train you to use the eyes properly again.
One exercise that springs to mind is find an object with either a short line of text or a word on it. Move away reading the text (without straining - very important the eyes remain relaxed - the text should be clearly visible to start with), when the text becomes blurred, stop moving away and do one of two things (whichever works best for you, it is not important which one). Either: a) look at the top left corner of the text and then the bottom right corner, move form one to the other keeping the eyes relaxed and without straining or trying to read the word(s). It should become clearly visible. b) look at the text and turn your head slowly from side to side while keeping your eye on the text, thus simulating your eye naturally tracking a moving object. Again the text should come into focus. Some people find that only one of these methods works, some manage both. I won't tell you which worked for me, as I don't want to subconsciously influence you. |

FWIW I've been a speccy for loads of years.
As the others said, reactions need the UV, but this gets filtered out by visors and car glass. I have some but to be honest I only like using them when on holiday where the sun is much brighter than here in the UK, otherwise I find they make things just seem "dingy". Down near the Med they are great. I use Specsavers too, I've found good service and decent prices. I always have the anti-glare and anti-scratch coatings which I find to be excellent, the anti-glare actually seems to work and the anti-scratch seems very tough. Don't bother with special cleaners. Use one drop of liquid hand soap and a spot of water, finger and thumb to spread it on all surfaces, rinse off under the tap and dry with a clean soft cotton tea-towel.
