Don't think about the perceived value of the data, think about the amount of time that it's cost you so far trying to recover it, and the amount of downloading you'd have to do to replace it. Worth 50 quid at least

TBH now I have the 2TB drive I may well consider putting the two 1TB drives in a mirrored RAID

But most of the stuff on there is stuff I've watched and then hoarded when in reality I'm unlikely to use it again, it'd probably be good to have a clear out...

I suggest you start using raid with redunacy in the future, then when 1 goes swap the drive and the data can be reconstruced. RIAD 5 is the one you want, if i recall correctly.
