BTW: I am assuming that the head races are still done up so that we won't just lift the frame up over the steering stem and make a cat's cradle aout of all your wiring and such

If in any doubt place the top yoke back on and just do the top nut up finger-tight. No need to do up the pinch bolts.

Again, make sure you're happy that the bike is stable (2nd pair of hands very useful) and that you don't cross-thread the fork caps.

There's an adjuster nut on the stem, under the top yoke. If you've removed that then, when you lift the front of the bike, the bottom yoke will drop out. If you haven't undone anything under the top yoke then lift the bike and refit the fork caps as Jambo described.

Whereabouts in Scotland are you? Someone local might be able to assist.

I'm from Inverclyde, 20 mins from Glasgow. And I'm in way over my head lol.

If there is anyone nearby who would assist then obviously I'd pay the going rate.

I was wondering why that looked weird until I realised that you have the spacers poking out the fork tops!

Might I suggest a haynes manual for any future mechanical endeavours?

I take it spacers are those extra bit of forks which come out? Because i can't compress them enough to get the caps back on the forks, as soon as i press on them oil comes pishing out.

I've got the bike jacked up and the front wheel is off the ground now. Do i need those spacers or not? If not then i can easily get the fork tops back on. just wanted to check first.

I do have a haynes manual but i stupidly thoughtthe fork tops were part of the yoke and thought this would be straight forward.

You need to take the weight off the front and you REALLY DO need those spacers!
