Well if it uses more air and the ECU can tell and compensate then it'll use more.

If the ecu doesn't change then it'll run leaner and use a smudge less.

I think.

Mr only got £10 for fuel but can afford new plastics, a new tank and maybe a second bike.

It totally depends on the type of road I am riding for what fuel consumption I can get out of my litre VTwin.

Although I have decided, I can't be too sedate a rider these days, as I regularly get less than 100 miles before the flashing light comes on. I have to squeeze my bum cheeks in and pray I find a fuel station before I run out of petrol when it starts flashing. She gets a bit twitchy as well, suppose she must think its funny!

I think.
Volumetric vs thermal efficiency vs power output (how much throttle...) make a massive difference.

In an extreme case, imagine a big stupid american V8. They have a massive volume, but an incredibly poor volumetric efficiency, which is why a 5l engine might only make the same bhp as an asthmatic hamster on a bicycle.
But that 5l still has 5l worth of area inside which loses heat. Hence why they get nob-all mpg in town, all the petrols energy is going into the radiator.

I was talking about marks post and assuming all other things being equal inside the engine.

Same engine with or without a more restricted in and outflow of air/combusted gasses.

I suspect a good 30hp gets used up making noise rather than progress

Problem is you can't get one of them and change for £2k. Big twins are great but the exotic ones are damn expensive still. Give it 3-4 years for the newer generation to become used and assuming all the euro-regs haven't killed them off there would be a few more with daft grins blatting about on big twins.

You can get lairy exotic bikes for less than 2k....however consensus at the moment shows they've gone from a bit of a cult bike with a small number if owners, to being sought after, as folk have started realising, they are fruckin awesome.....so now prices have started to escalate a bit.

Although the increased noise in most 'performance' exhausts is from the lack of deadening so doesn't take up more energy.

The noise energy is still created in the stock setup it's just muffled and kept away from your delicate little ears.
