Correct. The light on my Curvy starts blinking between 145 and 150 miles and comes on solid around 160 - 165 miles. I haven't attempted to push it beyond the 175 miles.

Yes, that's right.
According to the manual, "...when the fuel drops below approx 4L, the light starts to blink. Once it goes below 1.5L, it remains lit..."

So... Hope that helps!

I'm not sure your train of logic is entirely correct there. The "force per combustion" (BMEP...) is going to depend on MANY factors other than calorific value.

Look at methanol. Very low calorific value, like 60% of petrol. However you can get some hilarious power out of it.

I use Fuelly to track my fuel efficiency; you can open an account for free - http://www.fuelly.com/driver/skybaba/sv650s

Pretty sure it's 13 litres from brimmed to flashing light, that's 12 mi/L which is 54.48 mpg. Better than mine, I get about 38 - 40

Hmm that's not bad.
I have to goto Milton Keynes on Tuesday. AA route planner recons 135 miles there and back. Going on my latest fuel range I should make it easy on one tank. Might even get more than 54 mpg on a motorway run !

Filled up today with 12 liters to brim the tank right to the top. Will see how far that goes before fuel light starts to flick on.
