[quote="jonboyWell okay, but the percentage chance of doing so is exceptionally mathematically small.

Sorry, but that's just plain wrong... I've slid the front 3 times on the SV while braking, and recovered it twice. Likewise, slid the front twice on the Virago and recovered it both times.

Indeed, I don't even know the number of times I have caused the front to slide on a cg125, a gpz500, a gxf600 and the SV. Every time recovered. So far.
The only slide I failed to recover from was a powerslide on the gpz due to cold tyres and not looking at the road surface before I thought I'd be flashy.

Okay my bad, I'm referring to losing the front while cornering at high levels of lean not to the front locking up with the bike bolt upright and in a straight line. In which case, yes the front can certainly be recovered in most circumstances if your reaction is quick enough. Sorry if I misconstrued the argument.

I think one thing to remember in all these posts about Braking, is that all your slowing down should be done before the corner, not mid corner.

Yes you can scrub a little speed with the rear brake mid corner, you can also apply the front brake mid corner at speed if you are gentle with it.

That was the point of my other post. Go and ride on a quiet road, lock the front a few times, while learning how much pressure to apply. Do you use one two or three fingers on the lever?

Has anyone tried no brakes? One of the advanced riding exersizes is to try to ride a familiar route without using brakes. This involves a lot more forward vision than normal and is very tricky. You have to be prepared to fail the test rather than crash of course.

Yup.
It is a good test of forward observation, I agree, but for everyday purposes not terribly useful since brakes are cheaper than gearboxes.

The level one training at California Superbike School, is no brakes,

The first part is normally one gear and no brakes, then two or three gears without brakes. An SV is ideal because of the engine braking :P

At the end of the day you are using all gears and all brakes, parachutes, luck, and any spiritual help you can get

yes, but how does not using brake put any meaningful additional wear on gearbox?
