It’s ridiculous for him to say that he can’t afford it. He must pay into an insurance to cover his business, it’s his decision whether he makes a claim against that for your lid or whether he pays up himself to avoid the premium rising.

It sounds as if this guy is a decent sort, he’s just letting it slip too far.

Have a word with Ed, a letter from a solicitor maybe all the threat you need. £250 is not much to pay, he will lose out a lot more from the bad publicity he will get otherwise.

Just tell him that you aren't going to go away (no doubt he's hoping you will), and that you are quite ready to take it further. Say that you're sorry you are parting ways on a sore note, but you simply cannot just let it go. If he doesn't get the idea after that, then you shouldn't feel bad at all to get the law involved.

Asked an instructor about this whilst walking the dog this morning (he's english and lives 2 doors up from me). If it's on his training premises then it's private land in England* so its not an RTA apparently. Again I'm no expert so can't confirm this.

He said this type of thing happens all the time and it's almost always the fault of the student. Basically, if a student puts any obstacle in a place that could easily be run over and damaged then it's entirley his own fault for leaving it there. If it causes injury to another student/instructor then it's 50/50 at best because the rider should be checking before riding off.

99% of the time it's another student running over someone elses helmet, gloves or mobile phone. Instructors 'normally' look out for this kind of thing.

* If it were Scotland then it is a different story as there's no such thing as private land. For example if someone reversed into your driveway and damaged your car/bike it is reported as an RTA in Scotland.I know this to be true because someone reversed up my drive and took the wing off my TT. It was reported as an RTA

Aye...at £100 a letter that's going to help matters.

I neither know nor want to know how much Ed charges or even if he would want to get involved. Asking someone with real knowledge wont hurt, and it's better than all of us just guessing.

Ah...sorry didn't know you were referring to someone on here. Worth a try I suppose.

Stuartyboy, good to know my gut feeling was right (ish).

Billy, good luck with it, but if it was on private property, it might be on dodgy ground (pardon the pun).

Was this a complete stranger? (bet you were pleased!) or someone actually visiting you?

Someoneborrowed a trailer was reversing on the road far too fast. Trailer decoupled and swung wrong direction. Trailer went into my drive and took the side off the TT. Car was only 3 weeks old. Driver scarpered but was witnessed. Was caught and later charged/prosecuted for hit and run. 5k worth of damage. Wing, door, sensors, airbags etc.
