Thats weird. I often try to get 7th gear but I never try to find a 0 gear. How odd. Dont know why I try to get a 7th gear either cos 6th gear is VERY tall. Like 70MPH at 4000 rpm....

Also why would you want First gear at 30mph?2nd is better imo for gunning it.

Guess some bikes have pussy bottom and mid ranges... Changing gear Pah.

NOTE. Nothing outside of 1000cc Sports bikes do over about 75MPH in first. And no your speedo is not telling the truth if it says other wise... A modern 600 is geared for 65-70MPH depending on model at the limiter. So physically cannot go any faster.

I'm always looking for 7th too, although engaging 6th has a certain feel about it so I usually know. I do it in my diesel car by habit I don't understand how people can't do it though, it's instinctive!

Balls to that. I've had 86 out of a 07 cbr600rr!

On are car you have neutral between the gears and this is the point where you engage the clutch and blip the engine on a car.

The desired outcome is the same, speeding up the engine revs to match the speed of the gear you are changing down to. This allows the gear to engage more smoothly and no jerking / lurching when the clutch is released.
Car gearboxes are constant mesh too, are they not?

Btw, you do go through neutral between gears on a bike.

Blipping is as much a part of riding any motorcycle as operating the gear lever with your foot is.

Do it right and a downchange to 2nd and 10krpm is as smooth and drama free as simply rolling off the throttle in 2nd after a moment of sustained 10krpm. That's the sort of rev-matching you're looking for when you do it. You could let a slipper clutch deal with it if you want (if you have one) but you're still going to give the rear a moment of greater decelerative load than if you blipped properly.

I wondered where those false neutrals came from if that is not true

Hmmm am I using wrong terminology then? Quick google finds FS to be correct, a car gearbox is indeed a constant mesh gearbox. So what is the correct term for a bike gearbox versus a car (type) 'box? (as I find myself in the odd position of being incorrect! )

I thought the only neutral on a bike was between 1st and 2nd (normally)? But as Stu pointed out, where does false neutral come from?

Sooo what is all this throttle blipping supposed to be achieving exactly?

If I'm changing down from 5th to 4th I roll off the power as I let in the clutch, shift down, and let out clutch as I roll the power back on. No back wheel lockup, no jerkiness, no bike wanting to get away from me.

Is it only for when you are using very high revs? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I'm at 8k revs, shift down a gear wanting to keep same speed, I'm going to be at 10k revs, and the slightest bump in the road that jars you will cause your speed to fluctuate all over the shop as your hand shakes. Maybe on a perfect racing track but for road riding?
