Feel really sorry for his family. One of the emotions you go through with grief is anger, I wouldn't be surprised, just as with a suicide, that anger features more in this families grief than most deaths. The guy gave no thought to his family whatsoever when he took a bike to 170mph on a public road. At least when somebody leaves thier family behind through suicide they don't it in sound mind, they do it because they are so desperate can see no other way. This guy just didn't give a **** what the concequenses were for his family.

Feel really sorry for the third parties involved in the accident too, having somebody slam into the front of your vehicle and get decapitated is something they will live with and dream about at night for the rest of their lives.

His mate who was doing the filming will live with it forever too, but at least he was party to the stupidity in the first place.

Sorry to rant. I'm a big softie when it comes to my wife and kid and this makes me think about them and makes me angry, and I really feel for the guys in the camper van too. I really have no time at all for 170mph sportsbike heroes, guys like that really get my back up. You hear them boasting about it at bike meets and you feel like walking over and telling them what ******s they are. Yeah, I have my silly moments, but 170mph ??
Agree 100%. As you say it is just this sort of incident that is used to justify the power restriction argument and any other anti bike legislation they can think of.

I hadn't seen it before, but after reading this thread you can see the car indicates before pulling out.

We all do stupid things from time to time, and danger doesn't always seem the same as it happens.

Tragic for all involved. His mate was lucky to avoid prison, given that guy who got sent down for 122mph.

Tragic story but this video shows the fault was not only the bikes for attempting to break the land speed record but the car driver shouldn't of pulled out.

So is everyone here saying 170 is a stupid speed on a road should never be done, whos had a fast bike down a clear straight going 150+? I know if i get 1000cc bike one day its going to get maxed just to know how much power its got.

Im not saying is good to regularly go 100+ but we all do it. ever looked down at your speedo when you pull the throttle open to overtake? your going 40 behind the car and 60-70 when you along side there door and still accerating, maybe not for me on my 33bhp bike but some bikes do that.

But the public road is not the place to be doing 150mph+ on your 1000cc sportsbike.. take it to the track really.

Watching the video it can be seen clearly that the dark coloured car has already moved over to the right, and indicated before making his overtaking move. Even the most pro-bike anti-cage person would struggle to conclude that the car driver was in any way at fault.

we all know that but when you first have a bike you have to test its power.

the crash wasnt at 150+ tho only 90 which in my mind is quite normal when overtaking on a road like that on a bike that sized.

i couldnt see the indecators on but its not a brilliant video road postioning is meaningless really, its agressive i had car drivers do it when i had a van which was restricted to 60 they sat in that road postion then on a long clear straight section of road wouldnt over take even when your as far left as possible. i dont take road postioning into account when im riding, i always think that the car driver has seen me so take care round them.

Why not. IMHO its quite feasable that the car driver was checking regularly in the mirrors and was aware of what was going on around them.

When your doing silly speeds its very very easy to close quickly on a car and to them it might appear as though the biker did appear out of nowhere due to the closing speed.

IMHO the biker is at fault here for riding at an inappropriate speed for the road / traffic conditions.

Its all to easy to blame cage drivers, as bikers we need to take responsibility for our own actions and not expect car drivers to keep out of our way and spot us.

3 figure speed road warrior or not...

Unless someone can correct me the Highway Code states that...

Quote:
Areas of white diagonal stripes or chevrons painted on the road. These are to separate traffic lanes or to protect traffic turning right.
  • If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so.
Car was already positioned to the right of the lane, and as such the biker should have read the road ahead (taking into account the position of the car).

Why don't they show the vid?
Would you really want to see it? How much of the link did you read?!
