What do you get? You get a little person that depends on you for everything and in return pukes on you, pees on you, poops on you, wipes snot on you etc etc and then when they're older you get to fix/service their car/bike

But as Timwilky says it's great being a dad, no really it is

Congrats mate. I love being a Dad, once I had a kid I realised that having kids was my raison d' etre, I was born to do it.

Don't underestimate the cost of nappies, but otherwise clothing them and feeding them can cost as much or as little as you make it. Baby grows in Tesco cost a couple of quid for a pack of three, in the high street shops they cost a tenner. If your missus breast feeds and you make your own baby food when the time for solids arrives, you won't notice the difference in your food bills, if you use formulae milk and buy jars of baby food, then say goodbye to your petrol money!

All the stuff you need to buy beforehand costs a bomb but be cheeky as hell, tell all your relatives that say they'd like to buy a present that the baby can't really appreciate fluffy toys for the first six months so you'd prefer "useful" presents, then point them towards the £200 pram/car seat combo set in Argos. Don't let your other half make buying decisions , buy what the baby needs not what your other half wants, there will be a big void between the two, and if your mother didn't need it with you, you won't need it either. Older relatives that already have children, start raiding their attics!

I totally agree with the above, we have about 2000, baby wipes thanks to both my mum and falcs mum picking them up with their shopping we are asking for nappies now and then milk if i can't breast feed. Useful things are much better especially if your other half works full time and will drop to statutory maternity pay when she goes on leave.
