I suffered with almost no sleep for two months. Tried alot out. What worked best was doing lots of DIY/bike cleaning/flat cleaning then taking a couple of herbal sleeping pills and saying to my self in bed "Don't fall to sleep - Don't fall to sleep - zzzzzzzzzzzz"

I work with people who have insomnia as part of my role. Now, how long have you really felt you havent been able to sleep? One night doesnt count!

And how exactly do you feel you cant sleep? Are you having problems getting to sleep, staying asleep, waking up too early, waking up throughout the night?

Once I have a more detailed understanding I'll be able to give you a few tips

I see. You probably know this already but unfortunately that doesnt fall into the diagnosis of insomnia.

However, has something happened over the last few weeks that you feel could have triggered this off?

Now these will sound blindingly obvious but it is amazing how some people don't actually do it and expect a more complicated answer. Key things I would say to you right now are:
1) DONT go to bed if you're not tired. It doesnt matter if it is 3am and you need to be up at 7am. If you're not tired just don't go to bed and try and sleep.
2) If you feel tired and go to bed and havent fallen asleep within 15 minutes, get out of bed and go and do something else for a bit then try again. The reasoning behind this is if you lie in bed and cant sleep, you will end up getting more and more agitated with the resulting consequence being that you will associate your bed with rubbish sleep. Best to avoid getting into that pattern if you can.

3) No tea/coffee at least 4 hours before bed time.
4) Only use your bed for sex and sleep. Nothing else
5) Try and get into a routine - go to sleep and wake up at the same time all the time. Even on the weekend!

Obviously if you do shift work this can be a bit of an issue as your body has to constantly adjust and shift to a new sleep/waking pattern.

PM if you'd rather take this to private chat and/or I can give you my email

Clearly you've developmed the ability to see in to the future while you've not been sleeping.

1) See, my missus does that. Some times I've gotten up for work in the morning (6am) and she still hasn't come to bed, I go downstairs and she's still watching TV!
2) Carrying on from the above, she stays up until 3am or 4am sometimes and then comes to bed, is supposed to be up at 9am but struggles out of bed and drags herself through the day with panda eyes, then comes home and sits on the bed and keels over.

I go to bed at a certain time if I know I'm in early and generally I drop off reasonably quickly (within half an hour) but what infuriates me is when I then wake up anything from 30 minutes to 30 seconds before my alarm goes off

lol, I recon I'm the only person who loves that.
Abi leaves at 6.45 and wakes me as she leaves for a kiss goodbye, then my alarm goes off at 7, then gets a snooze until 7.15 and another until half past. If I tried to get up and out I'd be a zombie but by breaking up that last 45mins of sleep, when it comes to 7.30 Im totally fine (most the time).
