If you've ever been on the wrong end of customer-service **** ups and bad treatment it's tempting to take an opportunity to profit from such blunders when one presents itself.

Someone's paying for it, though.

Why risk a criminal record---------irrelevant of how it is larceny. The delivery company will only go back on its records when they get the insurance claim and these mistakes can be traced. Be careful, you would not be the first to pull this stunt but we deliver goods for a living and we would be asking an awful lot of questions and prepared to get the police involved.----------YOUR CHOICE

I don't understand why you'd want to keep something you haven't paid for.

I'd be inclined to tell them. Someone has had to pay for this, either by losing their job cos the site made a loss, or by prices for other items going up a slight amount. There is no such thing as a truly free bike. If you are honest and tell the company, then you might get a money off voucher or a free lock for being honest, and a warm feeling. If you don't tell them, you have a cold bike that you didn't even order.

are you attempting to win the prize for the daftest post of the year contest, cos my money is on you at the moment edward. is it not obvious? or are you approaching this from a moral point of view but just not saying so?

when mr man who ordered the bike doesnt get his bike they (company)will probably realise their problem, and look at the paperwork trail, what was signed for and realise they are pretty much up a creek without means of propelling the vessel 'pon which they sit. its what courriers and the like have insurance for, altho if there are clear sigs they could be struggling. they will have to pretty much suck it up unless they can prove his flatmate signed for 1 x bicycle.

Did you sign for a parcel or did you sign for a lock?
Secondly, when someone who ordered a bike recieves a lock, how long before they twig whats happened?
If you recieved the wrong lock, you could reasonably argue you were unaware - but a bike instead of a lock?
Now deep down memory lane, I think you are obliged to inform them and they have 14 days to sort it out, in which time you cannot use the wrong item.
Otherwise its 6 months of keeping quiet and its yours. (? disclaimer: I know nothing for sure)

Actually, to avoid any karma issues, ring them up, tell them you have the bike, they have to collect it at your convenience and the only time that is convenient is 3am Sunday morning after you've just come in from the lash. Also advise them that you are storing unsolicited goods for them and your daily storage rates are £10 per day for uninsured items and £25 per day if they want to be able to claim off your house insurance should it get pinched from your house when you're not in.

No...I'm not being serious
