I get about 170 miles on mine before the light starts flashing at me, mixture of A road cruising, urban nipping and motorways at about 80

120 and then I'll fill up, but the reserve light hasn't usually come on yet. Normally works out at about 50mpg anyway

I don't get this. We fill petrol in LITRES at the fuel station. We clock MILES on the bikes. So why the F**k do we express fuel efficiency in bloddy MILES PER GALLON? Why can't we just be smart and simple and just frikking use miles per litre? Doesn't make sense! I demand an explanation!

That's my rant done for tonight. Lets see what comes up!

Nice and easy comparison a lot of people have their heads around without involving decimals, a litre is a bit small.

Your mobile probably has a calculator on it.

Type in the number of miles on your trip when you filled up... lets say 100... divide by litres... lets say 10... multiply by 4.5... ta daaaaa 45mpg...

Not bloody rocket surgery.

Question Re: Fuel range on a Curvy?

1. Decimals aren't hard.
2. I don't really need a calculator to do that.
3. The smaller the metric, the more accurate the reading is. You're in engineering mate; I don't need to tell you that. Especially for small values. Don't like decimals? They can then just round up or down.

Same with weight. Some people go by STONES. WHY? You don't buy food, meat and groceries by stones do you? You buy them in kilos. Hence, when you're measuring weight, measure in KILOS! Its easier to track smaller gains/losses that way. Ditto for fuel. Plus, kmpl is universal. The Americans don't have to convert our gallons and we don't have to convert theirs.

Buy in kilos. Measure in kilos.
Buy in litres. Measure in litres.

More accurate, by far, without the hassle of conversions and approximations. But... to each his own. I'll stick to kmpl.

Added you, SkyBaba...!

i may well be wrong on this, but... i thought american miles (and other non-metric measurements), were slightly different to our proper ones (oooh controverstial ), so them directly converting our stuff and vice versa doesn't actually quite work! but as said above i'm not absolutely sure on this so please don't take it as gospel.

UK: statute mile is 8 furlongs, 80 chains, 320 rods, 1760 yards or 5280 feet or exactly 1609.344 meters
USA: statute mile is about 3.219 mm longer than ours.
No biggy.

Got this from my phone and google. Addl sources may be required.

Decimals aren't hard... it's just an entrenched mindset to measure in mpg, and I think the unit is a nice size as if you're looking at integer values of it they're about the right resolution.

Regarding the entrenched mindset, if I know my van has just done 5.8 m/l... I have to think, is that good/bad/indifferent?
And I don't like mixing metric and imperial, and our roads aren't done in km.

Does your clock trip meter give you km? Mine certainly doesn't!

Liters per 100Km is the usual standard, which would confuse people that are used to MPG, as a smaller number is now better.

I personally prefer furlongs per stone of unleaded.
