kieth, pop the picture on mate. would love to have heard them fly over. i remember a couple of yrs ago watching a lancaster and two spitfires fly over our house. moving experience indeed.

last year me and mrs. madmal were on our jollies (on bike) down in Newquay. one particular day we were on a ride when i caught a glimpse of a spitfire parked up in a guys garden. had to go and have a look.

the owner of the plane was in the middle of a complete restoration (engine stripped down but rest of plane was assembled) and was a very decent chap telling us all about its history and what he was doing to it.

the plane was actually featured in that moving war film Dark Blue World about czeck pilots.

Funny you should mention that Mal. I remember a time when a Lancaster flew over also,an impressive site indeed. It was followed closely by Tony Curtis as they exchanged places on the trapeze. Great movie that!

I'm not being flippant here, but can you imagine what it must have been like when about two hundred Lancs flew over, with about fifty Mosquitos........if you were some poor sod in Koln, or Hamburg....

Manged to see a Spitfire up close at RAF Fairford last year. Also a Lanc. As someone has already said, they are beautiful from any angle.

Just wondering..... Valleyboy; were your pics taken at Fairford? Or elsewhere?

No - that was Wng Commander Guy Gibson VC (and some more besides) who led the Dambusters Raid. I thing his god (sic) remains buried at Scampton (?).
