Lapsed Golfer ere ( one day i will get back on the course )
As has been said, Get some lessons booked & it would be worth getting some clubs, not sure what the golf clubs around your way are like, but discuss your situation with the pro, he should be able to advise you on clubs etc.. Jas... p.s org golf day sounds good ![]() |

Used to play off of 14, not swung a club in 2 years now.
Not got the time or inclination to start back up again, if it's sunny i'd rather be out on the bike than rummaging around hedge rows looking for my stray balls ![]() |

I've not read the entire thread, couldnt be arsed!
the rules are pretty simple. get it in the hole with as few shots as possible. now the subtleties of the game thats a different thing entirely. start off by going to a pro shop with a driving range, speak to the people there tell them you're new and want to learn. they should get you onto the range with a few different clubs to try, help you with the swing etc. have lessons, regularly to start, dont get frustrated cos it can be a ******* sometimes. even scratch players have days when nothing goes straight. good luck and enjoy |

Right. I've been playing for about 15 years now and I started for similar reasons to you Vickster... missing out in invites etc. As has already been said, you can pick up a set of clubs for next to nowt these days or you could borrow some (I guarantee you will know someone who has a set stuck at the back of the garage). Then get down to a driving range. You shouldn't have to book anything, just turn up. Before you hit any balls off, just spend a few minutes watching. You'll soon realise that most people who play the game are useless (money and spare time does NOT equal talent). Try to visit the range a few times and preferably at the same time/day. This way you stand a chance of getting chatting to people who can help. There is nothing a golfer likes more than being asked for advice. Also, I would book a couple of lessons, especially a 'playing' lesson (ie out on the course) and before you know it, you'll be hooked.
Watch out though, the game is very cruel and you will form a love/hate relationship with it but when you hit that one perfect shot, you'll see why people do it. |

I used to play golf. I got to a fairly decent standard, around a handicap of 10 according to a mate i played with, but then i husrt my ankle and have never been able to pivot on my left foot.
The rules, hmmm, the basic rules are pretty straightforward, but its the loacl rules that can be very confusing. I think my bats are still up in the shed at my mums. Agreed with the above. When you hit that Driver off the Tee in the sweet spot, it makes you all warm and glowy indside. However, the driver was never my friend. |
