I do have a question.
If I do that cam swap from the injected models, do the cams from all years fit? |

As far as I know, if you do a straight swap for K3-K9 cams into a curvy, they all line up the same and all will work. However, you'll need to do the valve clearances again as you've changed one of the surfaces you're measuring between.
Most common, however, is to only use the K3+ intake cam and then shift the curvy intake cam to the exhaust side. You'll need a diagram and to be careful to mark everything up as you've now got 2 "intake" cams per head and the timing markers on the one acting as an exhaust cam have to be used very differently. Yup. Though, suzuki's tolerances are very good and you may well find that you don't need to reshim, you should work on the assumption that you might have to. I didn't though, which was nice.

Northwind, any chance you could do a bit of a write up on what sprocket marks shouldalign with what?

Haven't a clue tbh mate... I did it by eyeballing the cam lobes and counting teeth/rivets on the cam chain, rather than by re-marking the cams. There used to be a pic on SV Rider showing how to re-mark them but tbh I found it all just complicated matters, since all you're doing is putting the new ones in how the old ones were.

Just been checking my valve clearances, 1 exhaust on the front is less than 0.20 and on the rear both inlet are less than 0.10 and both exhaust are less than 0.20.
Bike has 18k on does this sound right? Edit: I had the lobes in the wrong position. I now have an exhaust valve on each cylinder that wont take 0.20 but will easily take 0.15, is this worth sorting out? Last edited by nobby; 03-04-10 at 11:34 AM. |
