Gotta agree that some times nerves are only because of the test itself. I failed my first direct access cause of nerves. Never had the problem when learning but just on test. Nearly failed due to hesitancy on the second test but made it through. When asked by the examiner why i was hesitant on the occasions he pulled me up on i said nerves. I'm not nervous on the bike now at all, and wasnt during learning either. I went straight from the er5 to an sv thou 3 days after passing and was only slightly nervous then. Its test. I guess some people handle them better than others. Kellyjo, keep trying though cause you will pass eventually. Just need a like bit of luck with ya nerves

Are you gonig out with your instructor for a pre test ride. Mine did that with me, it was only for 45 minutes, just a ride of one of the test routes, practise U turn and then to the test centre.

I was so nervous before my test that that 45 minute ride got all my nerves out of my system. I stalled twice and rode really badly I was a complete bag of nerves.

Strangley making the mistakes and having a bad ride before my test really helped and it allowed me to get all the nervous energy out of my system and as I soon as I sat on the bike to begin my test I relaxed and was able to ride nerve free and I passed.

Just wandered if a pre test ride, ( if you arent doing that already ) might help you calm your nerves ?

Not lucky, well done for doing some prep work before taking the test.

I took the wrong roundabout exit on my test! As long as it is done properly, they shouldn't fail you for it. Examiner just got me to turn around and take the correct exit - out of sight I commited the worst U-turn I'd done for months

yup taking wrong exit counts as a minor for failing to follow instructions. Also someone asked if road rode has changed i sat old and new test(failed first time around)and only difference was beause no slow manouvres in road part examiner had more time so took me on faster a/b type roads in the area.Apparantly that is now the stndard(up here anyway)

Maybe they weren't sufficiently trained to take module one yet. Everyone seems to be blaming the test, how about new riders taking responsibility for their own failings and lack of skills.

Practise makes perfect, they can't expect to be sufficiently trained to take this test in a few hours. If it stops new riders with little skill from getting a test pass and then going out and hurting themselves, then I'm all for it.

BTW people, a U-Turn is something you only have to do for your test examiner. I've been riding for 30 years, and whilst I can U-Turn pretty much any bike, I prefer to get of and push the damn thing round. Sod risking damaging my bike because the DSA tell me I have to learn to U-Turn.

Treat the test as a trial run, just to see what you'll fail on and to get an idea of where you need to concentrate your efforts in lessons. Give it your best shot and do everything by the book, as you would do or a normal test, and see how it goes.

My middle daughter is a nervous type when it comes to tests and exams, so I gave her this advice on the day of her car test, she passed first time.

agree with you lozzo - done one u turn since my pass in april and to be honest i coulf of just pushed it around. U turn means nothing in real life.

Kellyjo you will pass if you keep practicing and going over the bits that are causing you to fail. I dont envy anyone doing this part 1 test since its just another thing to possibly fail on, but if you want this, then stick with it
