A couple of people have mentioned needing to really rev a 600 to go fast. This isn't directed specifically at you Krhall and isn't necessarily a criticism (yours was just a handy quote!) but we must all understand that this is relative yes?
In sixth gear at 90mph my gixxer 600 is doing about 8000rpm. It's not even really in to 'the powerband' and it's well over the limit. Roll on accelaration from there is pretty good but if you drop it in to 3rd or 4th from there and accelerate then you really have to hang on ![]() Bottom line is that these bikes are fast. If you're using it on track and you want to keep it firing out of corners then yes, you have to keep the revs up, but for road riding, unless you're riding WELL over the limit (which granted sometimes most of us do) you don't HAVE to rev it hard all the time. You can at mid-revs and still overtake most things on the road. By the way, Dan, get one. You won't regret it. You even get a free seat pod and some decent storage space under the seat. Plus adjustable pegs. And great clocks. Cheers, Matt |

i find that my usually riding between 30 and 50 is only using about 4-5k revs, when i ride the bike quickly 60 - 100ish i still find the revs stil under 10k? when u go over 10k all hell breaks loose and the horizon comes to you very quickly! ive been a "V" 2 bloke for the last 4 years after coming from IL4's and yes i do love v twin bikes but the little gixer certainly has'nt disappointed and thats coming from a sv1000.

For instance, I read in a recent copy of "Fast Bikes" that apparently the Ducati 848 is rubbish but looks nice! Pinch of salt anyone? The problem is, people then start bounding these same opinions around without actually ever ridding these bikes and the Chinese whisper gets further distorted and exaggerated! The picture that so commonly gets painted these days is that the R6 is the equivalent of a 50cc scooter until it hits 12k rpm, when it suddenly gets 1000cc esqe power! This is a bit of a joke. Sure it makes less power further down the rev range than the rivals, but in real world terms, you or I aren't gonna notice that at 8k rpm, had I bought a CBR I would have approx 4 more hp and 1ft lb of torque! People are quick to criticse on here, but I find that they are the same people who insist on riding round town in 5th gear at 40mph or ~3k rpm (which the SV/twin could do) and find the thing stumbling therefore it must need it's nuts revving off??? There are appreciable differences in the IL4 and V2 engine configurations and you shouldn't expect to be able to ride them exactly the same way. Anyway, the bottom line to my SS600 rant is any of them will blow your mind, so just buy the one you: A: like the look of and B: Can afford! Do that an you won't be upset with your choice ![]() |
