Have seriously thought about it, but I'm not sure where I stand as I haven't made an insurance claim (with £600 excess you can understand why ). Maybe I should contact a solicitor first, and see what the chances would be.

the local councils have a money pit for such things, its very straight forward to put in a claim

apart from fact that you didnt report the accident of course

Steve!!!!

Playing chasey chasey with Nick was hardly a sensible choice! One of you was bound to come away crying!

As for the compensation Claim....keep at it. I used to work for the claims department of a council and I will tell you now...they fight everything and stall for any time they can as most people will not pursue once they get bored! The money pit does not exist, every penny has to be accounted for to the Central Government and it seriously damages their claims for next years funding so they don't give it away cheap...these thing take on average 1 year and I worked on some that were still going 3/4 years after the incident!

Another thing is that there are strict but very ambiguous rules for their duty of care when it comes to road covers etc...I think the Environemntal Act has a very amusing clause in it that says something like 'councils must be given an appropriate amount of time to effect repairs to a road service after the damage has been reported' which basically means they don't have to do very much at all until they feel like getting round to it and no one can say anything.

My personal opinion to this is to have a go but talk to a solicitor first or the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Good luck and hope to see you soon.

There are loads of urban myths when is comes to this sort of thing but none are as good as the true stories that you come across...without meaning to derail the topic....oh go on then.....
We had a claim from a woman who claimed she had tripped and damaged her leg after a large block of concrete was placed in the middle of the path in Great Portland Street. She claimed there was no way she could have avoided the obstacle due to its prime location on the pavement and it having caught her unawares while out walking with her children.
As you can imagine, we took this quite seriously and got contractors to the street to remove the article and take pictures for evidence...when they arrived and followed the directions of the woman to the offending block, it was found to be the step to one of the oldest building on the road and she had been runnning her hand along the railing of the building while texting someone with the other hand and hadn't seen the huge slab of marble that has been there for over 200 years!!!!!! She didn't get anything for that claim!

Ok - really hope this picture comes out ok.

Here's none other then Jelster himself, Saturday morning at Boxhill "sans" Gixer 600. (Respect for turning up)
BTW - it wasn't lets hate yellow SV650 day, my m8 Neil bought a Huskavana the night before & took it on her maiden ride.
Damn rain - we were the only one's at Boxhill that very wet morning.
Magoo & Anna, I'm sure you'll recognise Roger & Debbie from kickboxing. They wussed out & joined us by car, like Steve, although he had a good excuse.

D.
