A 600 at 4000rpm is going quicker than you think, a test ride where you thrash it around may make it seem like there's nothing down low, but as I've said several times before: 40mph top gear roll on my ZX6 beats an SV, but I still hear SV owners rolling out the tired old lines "600s are gutless" "IL4s have to revved to oblivion or they stall when you pull away" - the usual bollox, just 'cos they make good power at the top doesn't mean there's nothing elsewhere, and as for numbers on the tacho, who cares? Compared to old Brit bikes an SV is revvy and flat, would an A10 be preferable, and anyway there's no work in turning a throttle so who cares what direction the needle's pointing?

Groovy, more for us who appreciate good bikes, and don't have a (wrong) stereotype.

The SV is better than a few IL4. Bandit 600/650...CBF600...600 Divvie.

Compares nicely to a Fazer 600 or Hornet 600.

Stuffed by anything else.

Yep. But since they're more powerful and more efficient than twins its a good job they found their way into motorcycles.

its cuz i come from il4's back to twins, got fed up of electric turbine kind of power and 14,000 revs. i like my lumpy, ploddy V twin now and at the moment cant see me going back to an il4.

I just don't understand that statement, I mean it almost sounds as if you're making an excuse for having an SV...

You don't have to ride an IL4 over 10k to go anywhere, and if you're as experienced with IL4's as you say you are you'd know that. I could ride my GSXR600 around all day at under 8k, and keep up with any SV650, it's just a case of learning to ride it properly. They make a great sound with a decent can, different from a twin, but still good none the less.

The great asset with a middlewight IL4 is that you do have the extra power there if/when you want it, but that doesn't mean that you HAVE to ride it like that ALL the time.

I think what you're trying to say is that the "lumpy & ploddy" vee twin suits your lazy riding style, which is fine. But it doesn't mean that IL4's are a worse bike.

FFS lets all agree to disagree I can see both sides of the argument as have owned all types of bikes (except a 4 stroke triple (yet) ) and they all differ in mannerisms and handling.

i for one like lazy low down grunt (but that dont stop me reving the **** out of my bike ) and likewise i have enjoyed the heady buzz from singing at 14,000 rpm.

all different but all fun nontheless . maybe it's an age thing but i now prefer the thump thump thump instead of the vrrrmmm vrrrrmmm vrrmmmm .

especially my mates new r6 that sounds like an angry wasp on full chat.

yeah well said. but in my opinion, NOTHING beat the sound coming out of the 1100 moto guzzi twin that I followed through small Welsh villages in Feb. When we went through narrow places with the echo off the slate walls and houses, my god I was in heaven!

IMO remember
