The Shims from Wemoto will be copies, they don't do genuine parts, as I'm new to Suzuki I would have go to main dealer unless anyone can suggest online parts suppliers for genuine parts

My new micrometer arrived today, the front cam is out...the back cam chain tensioner bolt on the front cylinder was an absolute swine..

One thing Ive found is differing thickness of feeler gauges, I have 3 sets and the newest set are out particularly at 0.20mm which could screw the clearances taken.

All back together and shes still alive complete with 2 new shims.

As YC said there is no need to take the rear cct off as you can release it in place...not quite the same for the front.

Hi Guys,

Newbie here - so sorry if repeating stuff...

I have just checked my clearances (@20k miles) and the inlet valves are all within tolerance so no problemo

However, all 4 exhausts are at precisely 0.18mm...

Given that this measurement / wear appears to be consistant across both heads, would it be safe to consider this as a wait-for-autumn job and reset the shims in about 1-2k miles?

I can always monitor the situation to see if it gets any worse, but would be interested to hear any other real-life experiences with similar SV valve clearances...?

cheers

As one poster has suggested James, are your blades correct? Also are the cams original or been changed?

According to the micrometer I was using, yes...

And, yes - afaik - original cams

I guess I'm coming from the angle of, if the clearances had been checked at 15K and were close but OK at say 0.21mm, then would it be reasonable to think that Suzuki have built in sufficient tolerance etc. to allow for the 15K interval...?

Therefore, given that the clearance now @ 20K is 0.18mm, I should be OK to reshim this winter in no more than a couple more thousand miles...

I'll leave the answer to that one to someone better qualified. I'd be guessing otherwise.

Fair enough - thanks anyway - I've kind of answered my own question, but the fact still remains that they are all a tad tight and need re-shimming one way or another
