why don't they invite the CWU to run the company and see where they get. Please don't go on strrike this weekend, I have several important letters in the post tonight and I need them to be delivered. Most are court claims forms, I usually time them to go out Friday so I ruin someone's weekend

Ed - with respect that still does not give said boss the right to be rude / disprectful or just a plain downright nasty POS.

I live in the real world I understand all these things, yet I have worked for people who treated me like dirt, purely because they signed my pay check and it made them feel like they had some god given power over me.

Please note I am not for one minute saying that you are like this, but I have worked for many people that are. Even I got the point where I was like "F*ck it why do I bother anymore" I said this to my boss one day ( not quite like that ) but I made my point, and he said "your job is to do as I tell you, I'm not interested in your opinion, whether you think I am right or wrong, you do what I tell you when I tell you" when you work for people like that you loose all your job satisfaction, you loose your pride in your work, the only thing you have left then is how much money you have in your pocket... it becomes the sole main reason for going to work.. then you fight for every single penny you can screw the B*stards for...

Fizz, you make a good point. Nope I'm not a megalomaniac. I used to be there too, I used to work for a company where too many senior managers were straight out of MBA school with no life experience but thought they were the bees knees and simply didn't understand what made the world go round.

But I have had a few people who simply complained at pretty well everything, they thought they were doing me a huge favour by getting out of bed and coming to work. It gets so irritating.

the simple answer is, he's wrong. Your job is to do what's written in your contract.

Just wanted to say that Parcelforce aren't going on strike contrary to the impression you may have got from the media, eg parcelforce vans driving past on TV news reports about the RM strike. So if you're ebaying through us then we'll be working as normal. The only effect I can envisage is a delay to items left at post offices that RM would pick up and then hand to parcelforce. I also understand that RM special delivery will be operating as normal.

Royal Mail will start to lose its market share for the continual strikes.

A mate's step dad was saying he doesn't want to strike but its the working atmosphere that would cause a lot of tension between him and colleagues.

TBH I think the management are doing a pretty good job of that on their own. In one delivery office near me October's budget was used up in the first few days. So nobody was being offered overtime to clear the work and the backlog has been steadily growing since.
I think the strikes will just be a catalyst to the demise. The latest I heard was that the CWU have asked RM to agree to an independant body to assess the workload and resources required. Hopefully this happens and everybody lives happily ever after. I'm not optimistic though.
