no, the tuono was for me anyway,

Cheap to insure (£300 comp)
Cheap to run (services are £250 & £350)
Fuel efficient (40+mpg easilly)
Perfectly sedate to ride if you didnt go mad.
Tyres are £20 more than the SV and last for 6k if your careful, although I went though a set of super sticky tyres in 3k.
Did 300 Miles in a a day no problem

Of course I chipped it added cans - (ruined fuel economy but the sound was worth it)
I only got to service mine once as I crashed it before it needed another
went mental on it whenever i could and love every minute
still lust after it now

What about the v-strom thou? It's not the prettiest bike, but practical with a good strong v-twin engine.

The V-strom is a definite on a test ride list now I think I would prefer the thou rather than the 650

I thought Tuono was insurance group 15? If that's the case, my insurnace would go up again somewhere close to £800-900
Other than that it does sound like an option I'd need to try
What do you ride now BTW?

The Yam TRX's are getting on a bit now, but I'll be the first to admit a secret hankering for one. Older TDM engine, in a different package.

I can't agree with you that all IL4's feel lacking in low down grunt, but what's important is whether you feel it suits you. I feel we're circling around a naked/half faired road bike or a gaint trailie at this point.

Hornet 900? They don't go for alot of money.

If it were me I'd try and ride one of:
a)DL1000/KLV1000 (same bike)/Varaldo/Africa Twin
b)Hornet 900/Z1000/Z750
c) ER6/F800/Street tripple

This then means you've tried a few types of bike, and can refine what you did, and didn't like about each.

My only comment would be you seem to want a powerful V-twin, with good fuel economy. The riding style makes a huge difference but you may be setting yourself up to pick one or other.

The Tuono is group 15 IIRC, but I live in the middle of no where- so it might be a killer as your a london postcode.

I currently ride nothing, as I got married and spend all my money on that.. and now I need to extend the house, looking for a green laner late this year with any luck

It is ment to be a bulletproof powerhouse though so sounds like some fun.
And the older model has two little round headlights instead of the one in the pic.

Think you can pick up a goodun for around £2k mark if not abit less.

Time for an update methinks.

So far the test ride wish-list is as follows:
Deifnite
1. BMW
2. TDM
3. V-Strom (probably 1000 but also possibly 650)
4. Bandit 1250 (sadly it seems that I can't afford the GT version )
5. Shiver
6. Z750 or 1000

Possible:
1. Africa Twin
2. Tuono
3. Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 (still no opinions on this one.. wonder why?)
4. Versys
5. VFR
6. FZ1 Fazer

Thanks for all the suggestions so far folks!

I would not put striple in same category as F800, if anything it fits with category b. Maybe bit out of his price bracket too?
