Unfortunately, the Beeb can't win. If it didn't do the full-on State Broadcaster funereal stuff, it would be pilloried by the Murdoch press, Mail, etc for being 'disrespectful to our BRITISH values**'

And because it's doing the full-on funereal stuff, it will still be pilloried by the same media for cancelling peoples' favourite shows.

That's true Craig but I would have thought that parallel coverage on BBC1 and the News channel would have been enough. They even took bbc4 off the air.

I thought back to the right to drive conversation. Tax really annoys me that they've always made it a PITA (in this case they made it impossible) but it carries a sizeable fine and I think points too.. where as the vehicle safety check which in my eyes is pretty cirtical - is a small fine (or was). A mate who's a copper never used to MOT his car, he said a lot of his colleagues didn't (hopefully that was fabricated) but I know for sure he didn't - plum. Digressing into a different gripe there.
So the copper drives around without an mot and tax !
Do his colleagues know ?!

Why take BBC4 off the air ? I couldn't understand why the England women's football match wasn't on! Strange.

With all due respect to the Duke of Edinburgh and the service he put in, but this could go on for weeks. The journalists/tv presenters will have a field day.
Nicholas Witchel was giving his two penneth on the news tonight. I like to remember the time Prince Charles was overheard and recorded saying about Witchel -' I can't stand that man ,he's so awful, bloody people '

It probably will go on for weeks, the same repetition of clips and interviews. I think Philip was a very good judge of character, here's certainly right about Wichel.

If you're wondering whether I'm anti royal, I'm not, in fact I've a lot of sympathy for them. It's not a job I'd want. My beef is purely with the media.

The Duke was a top bloke, hated all the pomp, and used his position to do a lot of good. look at the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, it has changed the lives of many people by helping them get a decent start in life. He served in Royal Navy during WW2 and afterwards and loved the Navy, I guess he was a bit p155ed off when George VI died too early and he had to take up life as consort. The nearest to him I guess is Princess Anne, who just gets on with things. Pity Harry did not take after Phillip - it looks as though William might. I do agree we could have done without pretty much all the BBC channels taking off their normal programs, but these days hardly anything worth watching anyway on terrestrial TV, so if you want to see stuff you need at least one streaming service.

Me - Ermmm, .......(try to think what they're up to) ........ no.

Them - OK, thanks for that, sorry to take your time.

Weird, must be some sort of scam, BT wouldn't do that, and I'm not a customer of theirs. Any ideas? I can only think it's the start of a scam and they decide whether to pursue it depending on who answers.
That's an old trick for tracking people down. Possible debt collector looking for A Parkes, wanting to know if they're known at that address.
Or perhaps A Parkes used to live there and they got it from an old electoral roll and were hoping you would say yes and allow them to connect you to a premium rate number, but that seems more unlikely.

My gripeS today, one has been covered re the Duke and TV OTT. The other, I had those wonderful people 'Micosoft calling, we can detect errors from your computer coming down the line'

Total scum, it seems to happen every few years I get a few calls. I have tried egging them along, telling them literally to F---- ---, today I asked for a technical explanation re the 'errors'. The caller just cleared down on me.

Some unsuspecting people must fall for it or they wouldn't keep doing it, makes my blood boil
