if its a screechy beep.. it may be your hard drive bearings about to give up the ghost... back up all your important data onto DVD or CD...... NOW

if it's a systems beep might be your power supply is unplugged/loose and your battery is getting low.

or system is telling you its getting a bit hot.. check that your fan is not full of dust.

well I wouldn't say it was screechy, it definitely wasn't unplugged, it's usually wired up to mains regardless the last one is the most likely but I wouldn't want to go near the fan, don't know how

Just to repeat, I've not heard this beep before which makes me think it might be something up with it, but then the screen didn't freeze, no programmes shut down, everything carried on as normal

I could really do without it packing up on me, this time of year is not good, lots of assignments and revision to do
