Default Scott Oil

My bottle of scott oil is about to run out. Does anyone have any recommendation for anything other than scott oil to put in a scott oiler? May sound like a stupid question, but I used to use chainsaw oil on my old bike which had no oiler and it was fantastic. Was wondering if anyone has tried anything like this with a scott oiler with decent results or am I better off just being safe and invest in another can of the red stuff.

thanks,
Mark

Red's the high temp isn't it? Blue for manky british weather. Or it was when I last bought some. I know some people just use used engine oil.

I use the blue for the temperate months and red for June-August

I just buy cheap car engine oil. I did buy some non-fling chainsaw oil but I thought it too thick run through the SO properly.

Any oil is good enough to lube the chain. Personally I use the proper stuff. However, using the old oil after a service seems to be the preferred tipple.

yep, engine oil is what i use,

i find it flings a bit, so i use EP90 gear oil (as suggested in the haynes manual) and it works a treat.

chain doesnt need cleaning as often either which is a bonus,
but i suppose having a scottoiler makes it easier.
