So here we have the initial results with still things to try out.

As stated in the video itself, I increased the action of the camera's tilting so that I could see what was going on whilst on the bike, I could look down and see generally how the system was working. I have now decreased the effect to try and keep the horizion more level now that I know its close.

I have further parameters to tinker with to try and keep the tilt correct during higher G force corners but sadly with the roads as they are its not something I can get my teeth into yet!

I have been doing tests in the house by spinning on the spot whilst holding the camera & board to check out how "high" G forces affect the accelerometers.
Apart from nearly throwing up I could see how one parameter would affect the return to zero point which I'll be playing with to try and keep the tilt correct through long corners.

Anyway enough jibber jabber, initial testing here: (sorry for the sound quality!)

Cheers chaps, I've a day off on Monday so may be able to test it more on a decent ride out.

This looks awesome! Did you ever test it on track?

Sadly not, I never got around to packing it into the bike properly. BUT keep an eye out because another Forum member has now bought the technology and is trying it on a sale or return basis!

Having said that, after seeing Bradley Smiths version (Where the camera pans left and right in the turns) I'm tempted to try and replicate it!

So here I am again, with revision 3!!!

I won't bore you with revision 2 but it included the use of a quadcopter style gyro control board and a brushless motor.

It works ok but still not at the level of a custom built motorcycle gyrocam.

At the very outset of this project I had known of a version developed by an ex IBM engineer and the results look very promising.

I had thought at the time that it was still not a solution that was open to anyone who wanted one as it involves circuit board building and microchip programming. Things which aren't necessarily difficult but need a certain skill set.

So finally I have taken up the challenge of building one from his design and I shall attempt to log the results here.

Here is a link to the original designers work:

http://www.revenanteagle.org/checksix/gyrocam/

Here is where I am at right now, I have the chip loaded with the code and the servo reacts to the motion detected by the accelerometers / gyros:

I have ordered the necessary parts to build a total of three circuit boards ready to sell two on to anybody who fancies them. If interest of the final solution is more positive, I will offer a service to build them for any org member who asks.

I will attempt to offer a solution which doesn't need a big white box stuck up on the motorbike, but a neater solution where the control board can be hidden in the bike somewhere with a mount solely required for the servo and camera in the desired position.

I'll certainly be following the results! Would be great for a track day bike!
